As a new international student studying at Capilano University, you will be automatically enrolled in the GuardMe More Enhanced health insurance plan. This plan is mandatory for all international students who are studying in Canada.
Please ensure you opt-out by January 16, 2026 if one of the following options applies to you:
- You have valid BC MSP Coverage
If you already have valid BC MSP coverage, you may opt-out of the GuardMe insurance plan. For the opt-out to be accepted, you must successfully complete the opt-out form, including the alternate insurance declaration, and identify your start date and end date under the other plan at the time you apply to opt out. Your BC MSP coverage must be for the entire coverage period or your opt-out will be declined.
Eligible Plans:
- BC Medical Services Plan (BC MSP)
- You are studying outside of Canada for the Spring 2026 semester
If you will not be in Canada for the Spring 2026 semester, you may opt out by successfully completing the Out of Canada Declaration and Waiver. If your application to opt-out is received prior to the deadline and is submitted successfully, you will not be charged for GuardMe medical insurance. Please note, if you decide to come to Canada after choosing this option, you will be required to purchase late arrival coverage. This will become available for purchase after the end of add/drop period.
Who We Are
Canadian. Independent. Trusted.
GuardMe a proudly Canadian-owned and independent company,
has been unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding international students, staff, and schools since 1998.
For nearly three decades, we've poured ourselves into building strong partnerships with educational institutions
to bolster student support and foster safe, nurturing learning environments that make a difference.
As a trailblazer in the industry, GuardMe was the first
to introduce a Wellness Program, recognizing that
mental health is just as vital as physical well-being. Our 24/7 multilingual mental health helpline, virtual
counselling, and crisis intervention services provide immediate, culturally sensitive support, empowering
students to navigate life abroad confidently.
GuardMe was also the first provider to achieve ISO and
SOC 2 compliance in both security and privacy.
Unlike our venture-capital-backed competitors, we store all student data exclusively in Canadian data centres,
safeguarded by some of the world's strictest privacy laws. With advanced encryption and continuous investment
in security innovations, we set the industry benchmark for data protection.
